Meet the members shaping our community - Clare Elsworth

Clare Elsworth is a partnerships and events manager who has built her career around a passion for creating meaningful connections and mutually beneficial partnerships. She currently looks after all things partnerships and events at Mel Browne Money, growing financial literacy among women and their families through genuine community and corporate collaboration. A role that grew out of a decade-long relationship with founder Mel, who was once her accountant while Clare ran a small business as a full-time single mum. With a background in Executive Assistant roles and team culture-building, Clare brings a sharp eye for detail and a deep belief in supporting people. She's also a freelance copywriter who recently finished writing her first book.

Best advice you’ve ever received, and do you actually follow it?

My sister once told me you can have a good time with anyone, but are they someone you want to go through a bad time with? It has served me in personal and professional relationships (and has been super noticeable when I didn't follow it).

What’s (still) on your bucket list?

A grown-up gap year in Italy, plus getting my book published.

What impact are you hoping to make through your work?

Increasing the financial literacy of women is incredible work to be involved in. I learned firsthand from Mel the impact of having a much better understanding of money could have on my own finances, as well as on the way my son thinks about money. Seeing that same transformation happen for the women around me makes for a freaking good day at work.

Favourite local restaurant, and what are you ordering?

Enoteca, Neutral Bay is within walking distance, and I’m there for the Zucchini flowers, pasta, and all the Italian words I can soak up.

If you could sit with any woman for a long lunch, who would it be and what would you ask?

Any woman? My late sister. But since I can't do that, I'll take a long lunch with Bruna Papandrea, please. There would be many questions which would ideally lead to: “How do I turn my book into one of your shows?” Dream big, right?!

What helps you get into your best work zone?

A good sleep and a beach walk. Then it's coffee, instrumental music, a laugh with the team, and I'm away.

You can only pack three things in your handbag. What’s coming with you?

Phone, lip balm and tissues.

What book or podcast has made an impact on your business?

Unf*ck Your Finances by Melissa Browne.

What’s something people may be surprised to learn about you?

I can 'sing' Give Me a Home Among the Gumtrees in sign language.

What are you excited about next?

The new product we are about to launch is going to make financial literacy SO MUCH more accessible.

"When money flows into the hands of women who have authority to use it, everything changes - for women, their families and their communities."
